The Syrian teen who fought for NZ in WWI

One young volunteer who signed up to fight in World War I would have been labelled an "enemy alien" back then.

Rizk Alexander was from the Mt Lebanon area of Syria, then a province of the Ottoman Turkish Empire. 

He left home as a teenager to join his older brother in Wellington.

When war was declared, he wanted a chance to fight the Turks occupying his homeland, so he volunteered.
