Police have released footage showing the dramatic moment a man leaped over a desk to grab money at the ANZ bank on the North Shore on Wednesday.

The man in his 20s, dressed in a hoody, entered the bank with a firearm just after 1pm yesterday. After threatening staff, he filled a bag with cash before fleeing the scene.

In the video, the man can be seen dropping some of the money on the ground. He nonchalantly stops to collect it before leaving.

Detective Senior Sergeant James Bothamley says the incident was "very upsetting" for staff at the scene.

The alleged offender is described as being of Maori or Pacific Island descent. He was wearing a white hoodie and sunglasses, and is still on the run.

Police are appealing to the public for help, asking that anyone who recognises the man in the video calls 111 or the North Shore Crime Car on 09 477 5261.

Alternatively, you can contact Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.
