Dunedin accommodation sold-out for Ed Sheeran

Tickets haven't gone on sale yet but accommodation is already booked up in Dunedin for Ed Sheeran's March concert.

The Shape of You artist will perform for the first time ever in the southern city at Forsyth Barr Stadium on March 29 in 2018.

However those wanting to stay in the deep south for the concert may have to look at other options.

Hotels and motels have already been booked out for the nights of the 28th and 29th, with the exception of rooms that will set you back at least $400 for the night.

Alternatives include accommodation in Oamaru which is around a 90 minute drive away or Air Bn'B which has some rooms going in Dunedin for as little as $50 a night.

Tickets for his concert in Dunedin go on sale on May 23 on Ticketmaster at 2pm.

It will be the first time a major concert has played at the stadium since Black Sabbath in 2016.

Other notable performers include Macklemore, Rod Stewart and Elton John who played a one-off New Zealand concert in Dunedin in 2011.
