Horror start to the weekend as two killed in separate crashes

It's been a horror start to the weekend on our roads, with two fatal crashes on Friday evening.

One person is dead following a crash between a campervan and a car in Gore at 4:30pm.

A helicopter was called to the area to transport another person to Dunedin Hospital, and another person was taken by ambulance to Southland Hospital in Invercargill.

The Serious Crash Unit is still at the scene, at the intersection of Andrews and Old Coach Roads in Otaraia.

In the Waikato, another crash has left one person is dead and another fighting for their life.

Police say there were others also involved in the two-car crash on Waerenga Road, near Te Kauwhata at around 3:50pm.

Waerenga Road is closed near the intersection with Kelly Road and diversions are in place.
