Missing Dunedin woman Nicola Hedley's body found

The body of a Dunedin woman missing since Sunday has been found.

Nicola Hedley, 36, went missing at 2am on Sunday morning and was reported missing to authorities on Sunday afternoon.

She was last seen in the Harrington Point area.

A search and rescue operation was launched after police grew concerned for her welfare, due to heavy rain and the less-than-ideal conditions at the time she went missing.

Around 60 volunteers helped search from North Otago, the Catlins and Balclutha, along with the Coastguard and specialist search and rescue dogs.

Her body was found on Tuesday, police confirmed.

Ms Hedley's family issued a statement through police, saying they were saddened by the news.

"We are so grateful for everyone's support and the hard work that went into the search effort," they said.

"As a family unit we are devastated, but we are strong and we can get through this together."

Police have thanked everyone who took part in the search.
