A mystery Auckland school student has been passing out lovely handwritten notes on the train, leaving smiles in his wake on the early morning commute.

It's a simple gesture by someone known simply as 'Your St Peter's Man' and has been putting commuters in a simply positive mood.

Samantha King contacted Newshub after she received a message on Thursday and Friday.

"Good morning! You're such a beautiful human being, I just wanted to remind you in case you forgot. I hope you smile at this little note," one of them read.

She said she'd been on the 7am train between Newmarket and Britomart "minding my own business" when the lone St Peter's College student began handing out the pile of notes - written on school refill paper - to random people.

"I did think it was strange until I actually read the note and thought it was quite lovely," she says.

Your St Peter's Man appears to have been spreading his brand of positivity for some time, with Ms King saying a colleague of hers had received a note a few weeks ago.

"I think it's a good deed he's doing. He's doing it out of the kindness of his heart, trying to put smiles on people's faces."

She didn't know the student's name, but hoped he'd be found so he could be thanked on behalf of those who'd been lucky enough to get one of his notes.

St Peter's College has been contacted for comment.
