Record-breaking Auckland banana dance

  • 13/05/2017

There has been a first-ever world record set for the largest group of people in the world to dance with Fairtrade bananas.

A sea of yellow-dressed people gathered in Albert Park for the Guinness World Record attempt - the brainchild of 17-year-old Kristin School student Christine Zhang.

The dance was led by "friendly giant bananas", and was to support the fair trade movement.

"Join us in calling for a just and fair economic system that ensures everyone benefits from world trade!" the event organisers said.

"We will provide the music and All Good bananas, you just need to bring your passion for fair trade and dancing shoes!"

Organisers say they gathered 156 people for the record.

The event was sponsored by a grant from Fairtrade Australia New Zealand, and All Good bananas provided hundreds of bananas for people to dance with.
