Two people have been killed in a serious crash near Rakaia, approximately 50km south of Christchurch.
A third person escaped with non-life threatening injuries.
The crash was between a campervan and a ute and the Fire Service is in attendance with at least two fire crews and support vehicles.
The crash happened shortly after 1pm at the intersection of Breadings Rd and State Highway 1.
Authorities say the road has been closed and are urging motorists in the area to avoid the area if possible.
