Children injured in south Auckland as car mounts footpath

A driver has been charged with dangerous driving after two children were injured when a car lost control and hit them in south Auckland.

Police say the incident happened on Hamilton Dr in Waiuku around 8am on Tuesday, and has left the eight- and 10-year-olds moderately injured.

Manukau Police Senior Sergeant Dave Readings says the children were walking along a footpath when the car lost control, mounted the kerb and hit them.

The children were taken to hospital.

Police say the driver now faces two charges of dangerous driving causing injury.
