Dunedin bomb scare linked to ambient band

A person claiming to be from a Dunedin band has been spoken to in relation to the bomb scare that forced the evacuation of some businesses including the nearby Countdown supermarket in the CBD on Friday.

Police confirmed they spoke to a person believed to be from the 'noise' band LSD Fundraiser and said the item left behind related to the band.

They couldn't provide more details on the note or package as the investigation was still ongoing.

According to the ODT, the band has been leaving demo tapes attached with a note on walls around Dunedin.

A post by the band on its Bandcamp page shows the demo tape and the note.

The note read, ''When there's nothing left to lose, i will firebomb your car, i will hack into your computer, i will leak trade & state SECRETS, i will hammer holes in your office windows, i will raise [sic] your buildings to the ground."

''i will bring you down.''

The package was later destroyed by a unit from the New Zealand Defence Force as a precaution.

Authorities swarmed on the central Dunedin area on Friday afternoon and cordoned off the intersection of Moray Place, Stuart Street and Great King Street, just one block away from the Octagon.
