New Zealand passengers will undergo closer scrutiny when flying to the United States as security measures are tightened.
The move by Homeland Security is an extension of an in-cabin ban on laptops and other large electronic devices which came onto effect in March.
New Zealand has made the list of 105 countries earmarked for enhanced screening of personal electronic devices and passengers.
The new regulations are expected to impact on passengers entering the US on direct flights out of Auckland Airport.
John Kay from the the Civil Aviation Authority says they're working closely to ensure the new requirements are understood and implemented with minimal disruption.
He says the CAA will make sure all security screening measures in New Zealand remain appropriate.
