Man with umbrella on head wanted after Auckland robbery

Police are searching for a group who chased a south Auckland service station employee outside and hit him with a sharp object during an early morning robbery.

Prince Singh was working at a BP in Papatoetoe on Tuesday morning when four attackers, including one covering his head with a half-folded umbrella, stole more than $20,000 worth of cash and cigarettes.

Just a few minutes later, they took off in a stolen silver Subaru Impreza, leaving Mr Singh scared and injured.

"Police are absolutely disgusted in these offenders. It is completely unacceptable behaviour," Counties Manukau police said.

"An innocent store worker who was just trying to earn a living has been left traumatised by these thugs."

It was the second attack by the group who tried but failed to rob a nearby Mobil station in Mt Wellington with a sawn-off shotgun an hour earlier.

Two of the group tried to smash a window during the failed robbery, but police said the store attendant activated the fog alarm and the offenders quickly left.

Anyone with information about the offenders, who can be viewed in the video above, are asked to contact Detective Sergeant Sam Rice on (09) 261 1300, or contact Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.
