Woman charged with murder after man killed in Otara

A homicide investigation has been launched after a 55-year-old man was killed and a 41-year-old woman was critically injured in south Auckland on Monday night.

Police were called to a house on Cobham Crescent in Otara at about 7pm after reports of a stabbing.

A 42-year-old woman has been arrested and charged with murder. She is appearing in the Manukau District Court on Tuesday.

The man was found dead and the woman was unconscious. She was taken to Middlemore Hospital where she remains in a critical but stable condition, police say.

Police have not ruled out laying further charges. A guard remained at the scene overnight, where a scene examination is now underway. 

Police say they will release the name of the victim once his family have been notified.
