'We are lucky to be alive' - family found unconscious in Auckland

A man who was found unconscious inside a Glendene, Auckland house after using a barbeque indoors has spoken of his luck to come out of the accident alive.

The 32-year-old man, who wished to remain anonymous, said his father brought a charcoal barbeque inside to let the embers warm the house.

He woke up around 10pm on Sunday to find his mother was on the ground and went to get water for her.

When he returned he fell over and thought the barbeque might have had something to do with it so took it outside.

He says when he went back inside he fell down again and doesn't remember what happened after that.

The family were saved thanks to a quick thinking neighbour after one of the woman inside the house made it outside to raise the alarm before falling unconscious herself.

Neighbour Krish Patel said he found three people collapsed in the hallway of the house.

"I was really scared, I don't what to do," Mr Patel says.

Mr Patel began dragging the group out and opened the doors to air out the house until emergency services arrived.

The two men and two woman found unconcious were admitted to hospital but are all in a stable condition.
