The first person to be seen in colour on New Zealand television has died.

Marama Martin was a television presenter for the New Zealand Broadcasting Corporation (NZBC) when it was the only TV channel in the 1960s and 1970s.

She was one of the first Māori broadcasters to appear regularly on television, and in 1973, became the first person to appear on colour television in New Zealand.

She was also the last person to appear on NZBC before it was switched off and split into TV One, TV Two and Radio NZ in 1975.

A death notice in the Taranaki Daily News said she died peacefully on July 10 at a care centre in Stoke, Nelson.
