Yes, it's true. BNZ is Closed for Good tomorrow (Wednesday).

Don't panic though, it's back to business as usual on Thursday.

The bank is shutting its stores and partner centres throughout New Zealand for a single day, so that its staff can roll up their sleeves and volunteer around the country.

More than 3,000 people will descend on their local communities, getting involved with more than 550 volunteer projects.

"This is the eighth time we have run Closed for Good and it’s always hugely exciting to see all the different project submissions come in," says Anthony Healy, chief executive officer for BNZ.

He believes this day reflects the great Kiwi reputation for mucking in and helping out, and was thrilled to see such a diverse range of projects submitted this year.

"Community groups do some amazing work throughout New Zealand and we take real pleasure in being able to give back in this small way, whether it’s by picking up a paint brush, planting native trees, providing budgeting advice or running financial literacy workshops."

Last year more than 24,000 volunteer hours were completed as part of Closed for Good with Anthony saying it’s a day BNZ staff always look forward to.

Projects ranged from painting fences to delivering financial literacy sessions and were spread all around the country.

"We still have people in the business who are just as excited to get involved as when it first started. It’s a very rewarding day and as all staff have a second day to use for volunteering purposes we often find Closed for Good becomes the catalyst for conversations around how we can support a community on a longer term basis."
