A New Zealand woman has tragically died while on her honeymoon in Vanuatu.

Newshub understands she was killed in an accident.

Joy Ramirez wrote children's picture book Toot: The World's Tiniest Whale, performed as an electronic pop artist, and was represented by talent agency Karen Kay management.

"It's such a sad tragedy and we sincerely feel for people close to her, in particular her husband and family. She was such a lovely, kind person and will be so missed," a spokesperson at her agency said.

On her Instagram account, Ms Ramirez posted an image of a tiny knitted whale outside a resort in Vanuatu three days ago.

The Toot: The World's Tiniest Whale website says Ms Ramirez's passion "is to create stories that teach children positive attitudes and social skills, to help them grow into awesome adults".
