The end of bluff oysters in Stewart Island

The future of the world-famous Bluff oysters off Stewart Island appears to have come to an end. 

The Ministry for Primary Industries has ordered the oyster farms in Big Glory Bay to be dismantled after the discovery of a killer parasite. 

The farms will not be allowed to return in a bid to protect the wild oyster fishery in Foveaux Strait.
