Bodies of pair missing in Tongariro Park found

The bodies of two men who went missing in Tongariro National Park in August have been found.

The pair reportedly entered bush after fleeing from police on August 12 in a stolen car.

Police, LandSAR staff, dive squad members, dogs and hundreds of volunteers had searched for the pair, beleived to be in their 20s.

Their bodies will be returned to the families.

"It is important that we have been able to bring the men back to their whānau to provide them with a sense of closure at this difficult time," said Snr Const Barry Shepherd.

Their deaths will be referred to the coroner.
