Facebook-organised Auckland house party causes $100,000 worth of damage

An Auckland house under renovation looks more like a demolition job after being trashed in a house party on Friday night.

More than $100,000 worth of damage was caused at the Waitemata property, after someone sent out an open invite on Facebook and Instagram.

"The gathering was unlawful and was organised by an individual who used social media," Waitemata police say.

Police say partygoers "spilled out onto Dairy Flat Highway" when they arrived close to midnight.

"Parents if you know your teens attended this party, have a sit down and speak with them.

"Police are appealing to the conscience of anyone attending the party or anyone who knows who organised the party in an effort identify those responsible for the damage."

Anyone with information is asked to contact Sergeant Mark Ovington at the Orewa police station or email mark.ovington@police.govt.nz.

Alternatively, anyone with information can anonymously call Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.
