Hawke's Bay locals are taking a stand against a proposed Water Conservation Order.

Hundreds will rally from Napier and Hastings to Clive on Tuesday to reject an application lodged by environmental groups to put water restrictions on two of its largest rivers.

Water rally spokesman Jerif van Beek says the move would cripple jobs and diminish their way of life.

"The general public is not really aware what implications that this may have if this goes unopposed," he says.

"If it stands, as it is now, how it is written, black and white, [we] would have not enough water to irrigate sports parks or even people to wash cars or water lawns in summer."

Mr van Beek says they will fight to the end.

"We want this to really rally each other up and we understand that we actually have got a future here in Hawke's Bay, and that we stand together, shoulder to shoulder - we will make sure this won't happen," he says.

The rally kicks off at around midday.
