It's been a momentous day for the Ardern and Gayford families, not only was Jacinda Ardern sworn in as the 40th Prime Minister of New Zealand, but her sister Louise gave birth to a baby boy.
Jacinda Ardern revealed the news of the birth, which happened in the UK, to Newshub reporter Jenna Lynch. Ms Ardern's parents split duties for the day, with her father attending the swearing in and her mother attending the birth of her grandson.
Children stole the show after the swearing-in ceremony when Ms Ardern's partner Clarke Gayford's nieces arrived at what they called "auntie Cindas lady party".
Mr Gayford tweeted about the girl's excitement before the ceremony got underway.
"So today's the day huh, the swearing in. Or as my attending 3yr old niece told kindy: 'im going to auntie Cindas lady party!'," he wrote.
