Police name victim of Greymouth shooting

Police investigations into the fatal shooting of a woman at a residential address in Greymouth late Sunday afternoon are ongoing.

The woman was shot at a house in Marsden Road, sparking an armed offenders squad call out and an appeal for the public to report suspicious activity.

The female victim is yet to be formally identified, but police believe her to be 43-year-old Hayley Williams, of Greymouth.

Amanda Williams, a close friend of Hayley Williams, told Fairfax she was "a cool lady".

"She would give her the shirt off her back, she would feed you if you were hungry, she would take you in if you needed somewhere to go."

Williams had three sons, she said.

"She did the best for her kids, good mum," Ms Williams told Fairfax.

Police confirmed on Monday morning they have located an associate of the alleged offender and a vehicle the shooter is believed to have used.
