Lucy Jessep has won this year's New Zealand Spelling Bee.
She is a student at St Margaret's College in Christchurch.
She emerged as winner from 21 of New Zealand's top year 9 and 10 spellers at the New Zealand Spelling Bee grand final in Wellington on Saturday.
She took the title after correctly spelling the word 'pusillanimous', meaning lacking courage and resolution.
She said she had heard the word before and had a good idea she knew how to spell it.
