A helicopter was used to lift an injured hang-glider from the Port Hills where he crashed on Thursday afternoon.
The accident happened just before 2pm and left the pilot with serious injuries.
Because of the location of the crash, the Westpac Rescue Helicopter was needed to winch the 47-year-old man off the side of the hill.
