A person operating a glider in Kaikohe was killed on Thursday evening.
Emergency services were notified about 5:30pm the glider was missing. The flyer left the Kaikohe Airfield earlier in the afternoon.
The glider was found late Thursday evening, and the occupant was dead.
Fairfax reported the deceased was a man in his early 70s who'd been gliding his entire life and a member of the Kaikohe Gliding Club.
