Large liquid nitrogen spill at University of Auckland

Emergency services were called to scene of a major liquid nitrogen spill at Auckland University on Thursday evening.

The Fire Service was called to the Medical and Health Sciences building after 8:30pm.

A release valve was triggered, which caused the release of liquid nitrogen into the building.

The New Zealand Fire Service was liasing with the univeristy engineering services to determine the cause of the spill. 

Thirteen fire trucks attended the scene, surrounding buildings were evacuated and roads closed.

No injuries were reported.
