Two children and an adult have had a lucky escape after their car plunged into the Waikato River.
It happened just before 10pm on Tuakau Bridge-Port Waikato Rd, south of Pukekohe.
The adult was taken to hospital in a serious condition, and the two children suffered moderate injuries.
A police spokesman says the car came off the road, down the bank and into the river.
He says nobody was trapped, and all three managed to get out of the car safely.
