Hawke's Bay Police have turned to the public in their attempts to identify a man who could be involved in the indecent assault of a woman in Napier.

They have released CCTV video of a man they describe as "a person of interest", and say they need to speak to this person as quickly as possible as they try to get to the bottom of it.

There are a number of indecent assault cases being investigated in the Taradale, Havelock North and Napier Hill area, police say, and they are now trying to nail down suspects.

Inspector Dave Greig says they need to find the person, and have already received a good response to their request for information.

"We are looking into the information provided to us already, but hope that this video footage will give people a better chance to recognise this man and help us to identify him," he said.

"Information provided by members of the community is critical to resolving offences such as this and preventing further assaults, so please do come forward if you can help."

Hawke's Bay Police are urging people with any information to ring them on (06) 211 3872, or anonymously contact Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.
