Scorching weather forecast for rest of the month

New Zealanders can hit the beach as summer weather arrives in earnest to the country.

Currently temperatures of over 30degC are being reported in Central Otago.

MetService has confirmed that the current weather is forecast to continue through to the beginning of December.

The country is in for warm weather throughout the rest of November as winter's icy temperatures become truly a thing of the past.

However for the north of the North Island - Bay of Plenty, Northland and Auckland - forecaster Georgina Griffiths says this is subject to change.

She says there could be changing winds ahead as we move into December, with more humidity, northeasterlies and rain on the cards for North Islanders.

Residents of the South Island may have reason to celebrate, with higher-than-average temperatures forecast for the next four weeks.

Ms Griffiths says inland hot spots like Wanaka and Alexandra can expect frequent "hot days" measuring above 25degC.
