Australia abandons higher fees for Kiwi students

Australia has abandoned its plan to charge New Zealanders who study over the ditch full price.

In its mid-year Budget update, the Federal Government has announced it is scrapping legislation that would have stripped the 10,000 Kiwis studying in Australia of their access to subsidised fees.

The announcement comes after the Bill stalled in the Australian Senate

Prime Minister Jacinda Ardern had hinted at retaliating if the change was made. In November, she said that it would be "only fair" if New Zealand raised fees for Australian tertiary students in return.
