Campervan driving on wrong side of Southland road 'accident waiting to happen'

A campervan driving on the wrong side of the road around a blind corner has shocked fellow motorists in Southland.

The Maui campervan was filmed driving on the wrong side of the road on double yellow lines near Curio Bay in the Catlins.

Kodi Goodman, whose partner captured the footage on Sunday afternoon, told Stuff it was an "accident waiting to happen".

"They were probably doing about 70kmh and we just did our best to signal them and get past. Obviously having kids in the car you just want to get out of there quickly."

Mr Goodman can be heard swearing in disbelief.

"What the f**k?" he asks.

Tourism Holdings Ltd, which owns the vehicle, told Stuff they have contacted the driver in the video and "reminded them about safe driving in New Zealand, especially staying left".

"We've also reminded them to review again the information contained in their motorhome relating to safe driving on New Zealand's roads."
