Christchurch Adventure Park finally reopens

Christchurch's mountain biking Adventure Park has finally reopened, ten months after it was torn apart by the Port Hills fires.

In February fire tore through the park's plantation, damaging the chair lift and zip lines beyond repair. Two thirds of the forest was lost.

Anne Newman, the Adventure Park's general manager, says the restored park won't be the same  but that doesn't mean it won't be great.

"Some of the trails will be quite different, obviously they're now exposed, but we do have new trails that are in the forest. They're brand new trails that no one has ever ridden before."

With the trees gone, crews also had to repair the trails after loggers used them as roads.

Trail builder Clinton Jackson said the devastated park was "akin to a bomb site or a war zone".

"It was just a complete mess."

The park's trail builders have put in new runs and replaced three kilometres of zip lines, as well as the chairlift tow rope.
