A man has been found dead at Mt Somers near Pinnacles Hut after an apparent fall.
Police were notified at 4:30pm on Friday afternoon, and a helicopter search located his body just before 10pm.
The 29-year-old's name is yet to be released, but the Department of Conservation (DoC) has confirmed he was a volunteer at Woolshed Creek Hut.
"DoC are devastated by this tragic loss of life and are focusing on support of his partner and family and returning the body as soon as possible," the department said in a statement.
"[DoC] will be reviewing the tragic incident to determine what happened."
