With most contact information now readily available online, you may find your Yellow Pages gathering dust in a drawer.

Now, you have the option to opt out of receiving the annual Yellow Book - but the cut-off date is fast approaching.

The option to cancel subscription has been available since 2015, but only for residential properties at this stage.

It involves a few easy steps on the Yellow website, requiring only an email address, physical address and phone number.

There isn't an option to cancel the White Pages. Yellow has a legal obligation to deliver these books.

However, the company was given permission to implement an opt-in for the Auckland region, meaning you won't receive this unless you request it.

"It was the city and book that's most ready for change," Yellow says.

"For the rest of the country, the books are combined and to ensure we meet our obligation to deliver the White Pages, you need to opt out."

The cut-off dates to cancel the 2018 edition of the Yellow Pages begin mid-January.
