A two-car crash on State Highway 3 has closed the main route from Te Kuiti to New Plymouth.
One person is in a critical condition and another person has been seriously injured, while police say a third person could also be trapped.
They say it happened just before 2:50pm on Saturday afternoon, four kilometres out of Mahoenui in the Awakino Gorge.
NZTA says the road is now closed and people should delay their journeys.
