A passenger, killed when a car rolled down a bank in Hawke's Bay, has been identified by police.
Sixty-five-year-old Waipukurau man Harry Nepe-Apatu died at the scene of the crash on Pourerere Road about 5:45am on Sunday.
The driver suffered minor injuries.
The toll for the holiday period - which started on Friday and will end on January 3 - currently stands at seven.
During the 2016-17 Christmas period, 19 died on New Zealand roads.
