Quake causes light shaking near Wellington

A 3.8 magnitude earthquake has caused light shaking near the capital on Tuesday evening.

The quake occurred at 7:17pm and was centred 10km southwest of Wellington, according to GeoNet.

It struck at a depth of 40km.

The quake was widely felt, with many Wellingtonians taking to Twitter.
