A body has been discovered in the water of the Matai River near Nile Street, Nelson this afternoon.
Police were called to the scene by a member of the public at approximately 1:15pm.
According to a police statement, the person had been swimming in a waterhole.
Stuff reports that the body was recovered from a popular site known as Girlie's Hole and appears to be a male.
Four police cars are attending the scene.
