The Police National Dive Squad has recovered a body from the Rangitikei River near Bulls.

Inspector David White says that while a formal identification process has yet to be carried out, police believe the body is that of a 16-year-old boy who went missing on Sunday afternoon.

The body was recovered from the river at approximately 3pm on Monday, near the SH 1 bridge, which is close to where the swimmer was last seen.

"Police’s thoughts and sympathies are with the boy’s family and we are supporting them at this time", says Inspector White.

The matter will be referred to the Coroner.
