A drunk driver blew almost six times the legal alcohol limit in Wellington in the early hours of New Year's Day.
The woman, in her 50s, was caught at a checkpoint at Raumati Beach at 7:20am.
A breath-alcohol reading showed 1417 micrograms of alcohol per litre of breath, well above the legal limit of 250mcg for those aged 20 and over.
"I don't get it, why is this still happening? What do we need to do for people to get it?" Wellington District Police said on their Facebook page.
"This reading, at this time in the morning! How dare you put other innocent road users at risk."
The officer said the reading is the highest they've seen in a long time.
The woman has been summoned to appear in Porirua District Court on January 19, and her licence has been automatically suspended for 28 days.
