Dumped dead man linked to Tauranga business

Correction

An article published by Newshub on January 4 incorrectly stated that police had raided a wrecking yard in Tauranga in relation to an alleged murder.

The police raid did not take place at the Mount Wrecking Company / Carparts BOP on Wilrose Pl. in the suburb of Gate Pa, but rather at a nearby business.

Newshub apologises for the error.

A man who died of injuries after being anonymously dumped at Tauranga Hospital on Wednesday has been linked to a business in the city's Gate Pa suburb.

The man was dumped by car at the hospital just after midday. He was suffering what police described as "critical injuries" and died later that evening.

A short while after the victim's arrival at hospital, the Armed Offender's Squad and a team of uniformed police searched a business on Wilrose Pl.

On Thursday morning police located a man in the suburb of Otumoetai and said they "are confident there is no further risk to the public".

They said the man is assisting with the investigation.

The Bay of Plenty Times reports that a witness was asked by police officers whether he heard a shot during the Thursday raid, but said he had not.

Police have asked that anyone with information contact Detective Inspector Lewis Warner at the Tauranga Central Police Station on (07) 577 4300.
