Extra police patrols in Panmure after violent weekend

Extra police patrols in Auckland's Panmure are being rolled out in the wake of a violent weekend.

Two incidents on Tripoli Rd ended in five hospitalisations, including a good Samaritan who helped a victim on Saturday morning, only to be stabbed later that night in what police believe was "retribution".

The violence also included a car ploughing through a crowd.

Det Insp Aaron Pascoe is asking people to leave it up to police to hold those responsible to account.

"This just goes to show how things can go spectacularly wrong when people attempt to take the law into their own hands to seek retribution in this way."

An investigation has been launched into who's behind the attack, and police are pleading with the families of those involved to make sure there's no more violence.
