Two dead in Dunedin house fire

Two people have been killed in a Dunedin house fire.

Four fire crews battled the Wesley St blaze which broke out at around 5:15am.

Police and fire investigators attended the scene.

Fire communications spokesperson Rewai Grace says initital fire crews responding could see the glow of the flames in the night sky before they even got there.

The fire was upgraded to a second alarm and a two storey house was well involved in fire.

He says fire crews were also equipped with breathing apparatus.
