A large manufacturing plant is on fire south of Mataura, near Gore, in Southland.

Fire communications shift manager Brent Dunn has confirmed 11 fire crews are on route, including a specialist crew from Invercargill.

This is not the first time the factory has caught fire - there was an explosion at the site in 2016 and a number of fires in previous years.

More to come.
