A man has been charged with murder after a badly injured man was dumped at Tauranga Hospital, where he died.

The man was anonymously dumped at the hospital on Wednesday just after midday, suffering critical injuries and dying later that evening, police said.

A business on Wilrose Pl was raided by police and the Armed Offender's Squad shortly after the victim arrived at hospital.

The victim has been identified as 58-year-old Lance Wayne Waite.

A 26-year-old man was arrested at Ngatai Rd, Otumoetai, on Thursday morning, and has been charged with murder.

He's set to appear in court on Friday.

Police said they're still investigating and anyone with information is asked to contact police on (07) 577 4300, or anonymously via Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.

"We would particularly like to hear from anyone who was in the Wilrose Place area on 3 January 2018," Detective Inspector Lewis Warner said in a statement.

He reiterated a statement from earlier this morning, when he said: "Police are confident there is no risk to the public following this incident."
