A Napier man is recovering after he was attacked and robbed late last night.

According to Police Detective Sergeant Craig Vining, a group of four or five males called in a pizza order before attacking and robbing their 22-year-old delivery man when he arrived at the Quality Inn Hotel just before 11pm.

One of the attackers allegedly threatened the driver with a weapon and physically assaulted him on the footpath while another entered the victim's car and took his personal cell phone, the pizza order and cash.

The victim was reportedly treated for minor injuries and is now recovering.

The offenders were described as being between the ages of 12-16 years old. Police believe it is likely at least two of them were using push scooters, one of which was recovered.

The attackers reportedly fled the scene towards The Warehouse before heading in the direction of the RSA building on the corner of Hastings and Vautier Streets.
