Parts of the South Island have been told to prepare for more wet weather.
MetService says outbreaks of heavy rain are expected in Westland and Buller, and parts of the Canterbury high country near the main divide, from Thursday night through to Friday morning.
As well, heavy rain is predicted to set in over Nelson towards midday Friday.
The forecaster says the downpours could cause streams and rivers to rise rapidly.
Surface flooding and slips are also possible and driving conditions may be hazardous.
Earlier on Thursday, Greymouth was flooded after the West Coast region was hammered by rain, which broke a period of drought.
Grey District Council said the weather caused significant issues around the district, including the closure of several roads.
It urged people whose properties were at risk of flooding to put their belongings up high and advised motorists against driving through surface flooding.
