A car full of teenage girls crashed and rolled during a police chase early on Sunday morning.

Police say the vehicle was seen being driven dangerously on Pakuranga Rd, Auckland, at around 1:55am.

"Police began following the driver at a distance and after a time, signalled for the driver to pull over but they failed to stop and a brief pursuit was initiated," said a police spokesperson.

"A short time later the fleeing driver crashed at the intersection with Cascades Rd and the vehicle ended up on its roof."

There were six girls in the car at the time, some of whom suffered minor injuries.

They have been referred to Youth Aid.
