The quest to bring native birds back to Dusky Sound

A major project is underway to bring back the rich sound of bird song to Dusky Sound.

It's what impressed Captain Cook and his crew so much when they anchored there in 1773.

But visitors are now more likely to hear the sound of silence, with introduced predators having decimated the native bird population.

Now, a long-term restoration project is underway to reclaim the area, with 200 traps already installed on Cooper Island.
